Rugby Indiana is launching a new Community Rugby Ambassador role to help grow youth rugby across our state while keeping the workload on coaches and club administrators manageable. We’re inviting parents, community leaders, and supporters to apply to be the “face of rugby” in their local area.
What is a Community Rugby Ambassador?
Community Rugby Ambassadors are local leaders who champion youth rugby in their own neighborhoods and networks. They use their relationships and communication skills to:
-
Promote their local club and Rugby Indiana through personal networks and social media.
-
Facilitate and support “Get Into Rugby Day” events that introduce new families to rugby and connect them to nearby programs.
-
Build school connections around Rugby Indiana PE grant programs to bring rugby into Physical Education classes.
-
Grow community partnerships with YMCAs, Boys & Girls Clubs, community centers, parks departments, and other youth organizations.
-
Help identify local sponsors to support the local club’s clinics, equipment, and player scholarships.
Ambassadors work closely with Rugby Indiana staff and local clubs, but they are not expected to coach or manage teams. Their focus is on outreach, relationships, and visibility.
Time commitment and support
The Community Rugby Ambassador role is designed for busy adults who can dedicate a focused but manageable amount of time.
-
Time commitment: Approximately 6–10 hours per month for a 12‑month term.
-
Support: Orientation and ongoing training in social media, event hosting, and community partnership building, plus regular virtual check‑ins with Rugby Indiana staff.
-
Network: Ambassadors join a statewide cohort of leaders working together to grow youth rugby and share best practices.
Who should apply?
We’re looking for people who are active and respected in their communities and excited about youth sports and rugby.
Ideal candidates:
-
Are parents, educators, business owners, or civic leaders with strong local relationships.
-
Are outgoing, optimistic, and comfortable talking with new people.
-
Are active on social media and enjoy sharing community activities.
-
Can commit to the time requirements for the 12‑month term.
-
Are not current rugby coaches, club administrators, or Rugby Indiana board members – this role is meant to support and extend their work.
Safeguarding and compliance
Because Ambassadors help connect families, schools, and youth organizations to rugby, they must meet Rugby Indiana’s safeguarding standards.
Selected Ambassadors will:
-
Register as a volunteer/administrator with USA Rugby.
-
Complete and maintain all required SafeSport training.
-
Complete and maintain all required background check accreditations for the duration of their term.
Why this role matters
Over the next three years, Rugby Indiana is working to grow our programs by at least 1,000 new youth players, especially through schools, PE grants, and community partners like Parks Departments, YMCAs and Boys & Girls Clubs. Community Rugby Ambassadors will be the people who turn those opportunities into real kids on real fields in their local communities.
By stepping into this role, you help:
-
Bring rugby to more schools and youth organizations.
-
Create welcoming entry points for families who have never seen rugby before.
-
Strengthen your local club’s visibility and sustainability.
